The Visuals of Zetar
2012.
I was a homeschooled high-school graduate when I stumbled onto Gimp – a free photoediting program available for wide use across the web. Zetar barely existed yet; the books were little more than a side project, while roleplaying claimed my greater attention. Back then I used Gimp for simple picture edits, tinkering with faces and turning them into wallpapers for among-friends character art. I used a lot of flashy effects and some turned out better than others. What mattered? I was learning the program, and how to use it.
As the books began to pick up steam, I turned my efforts there. I started designing book covers, maps, the Zetar logo, and more. My earliest offerings left much to be desired but they planted some important seeds; bit by bit, each new cover drew closer to what Zetar resembles today. I improved at mapmaking as well, eventually producing the Novera Galaxy map here on this site.
Everything seen in the Zetar covers, excluding fonts (sourced from Dafont.com), is 100% created by me in Gimp. All slides from Zetarthechannel videos are also created in Gimp. Even the photo on my Author page was touched up using Gimp!
Below is a gallery of image drafts of the Zetar Book One cover, from the earlier days to present date. Enjoy!
